Bondi Beach Outdoor Cinema — A Romantic Night by the Sea

“A romantic outdoor cinema night at Bondi Beach.”

I visited the Bondi Beach outdoor cinema on Sunday, November 16th, 2025, arriving around 7 PM, just before the movie started at 8 PM. The sky was turning darker, the air cooler, and people were already filling the grassy area for the night screening of Mamma Mia. The beach atmosphere made the whole event feel cozy and special.

Tickets & Seating

Tickets were $29 for general admission.
There was also a VIP area in the front with comfortable beanbag seats, available at a higher price.
My section was behind the VIP zone and worked on a first-come, first-served basis.

Since the screening takes place directly on the grass, bringing a waterproof picnic mat is essential. Some people came fully prepared with blankets, cushions, and even pillow setups that looked like a mini bedroom. It was so cute and made the place feel extra cozy.

Atmosphere

The grassy section wasn’t very large, so it filled up quickly.
There were plenty of couples, friends, and people just enjoying the evening vibes. The whole experience felt romantic, warm, and very Bondi-like — the kind of night that stays in your memory because of how pretty the beach is after sunset.

Weather & Comfort

Since it’s right next to the ocean, the temperature drops fast after the sun goes down.
A blanket is a must, and I highly recommend wearing warm layers. I brought my lightweight padded jacket, and honestly, it was the right choice (even though I think I was the only one wearing one…).

Food & What to Bring

People brought snacks, water, blankets, and comfy clothes.
You can’t bring your own alcohol because they check bags at the entrance,
but don’t worry — they sell drinks inside at the bar before the movie starts.

Eating your favorite snacks while watching a movie outdoors felt like the perfect picnic moment.

One-line impression

A beautiful and romantic night at Bondi — sitting on a soft picnic mat with your favorite snacks, watching the sky slowly turn pink and then deep blue as the sun sets behind the ocean.
The gentle sea breeze, the sound of waves rolling in the background, and a movie under the open sky create a feeling that’s hard to describe.
It’s one of those rare moments where everything feels calm, warm, and unforgettable — the kind of memory that stays with you long after the night ends.
If you’re spending time in Australia, this is an experience you’ll look back on and feel genuinely grateful for.
For me, the $29 ticket was absolutely worth it.

And Bondi is just one option — outdoor cinemas are also held in North Sydney and other locations across Sydney.
