Opera Bar Review — A Classic Sydney Evening by the Harbour

“Good food, ocean breeze, live music, and the Opera House right in front of you.”

I visited Opera Bar on Sunday, October 19th, 2025, around 6 PM, just as the sky was starting to calm into evening. I went with a friend, and the whole place was already buzzing — the perfect blend of weekend energy, live music, and the sound of waves hitting the harbour wall.

We ordered crispy calamari and sweet potato fries, which turned out to be the perfect pairing with the cool ocean breeze. The sweet potato fries were especially good — simple but addictive, the kind of snack you keep reaching for without thinking.

What made the evening even more magical was seeing the Disney Cruise ship slowly depart from the harbour, playing Disney songs as it sailed away. It felt surreal — like wandering into a movie scene by accident. A warm, soft moment I didn’t expect, but loved.

Atmosphere & Seating

Opera Bar is always crowded, and this day was no exception. Finding a table wasn’t exactly easy, but we managed to sit down fairly quickly.
The good part is that you can order through the QR code at the table, so even if you’re seated far from the bar, you don’t have to move. Super convenient.

Prices

Non-alcoholic beer was around $10, and most fried dishes were between $15–30. I don’t remember the exact numbers, but it felt like standard Sydney pricing — not cheap, but not surprising either, especially with that view.

What I Loved

The atmosphere was everything.
The breeze, the music, the view, the people, the food — all of it blended into this perfect Sydney moment. Eating warm fries and calamari while watching the harbour sparkle… it’s exactly what you imagine when you think of a Sydney evening.
And yes — the Disney Cruise moment truly made my heart melt. It made me want to ride it someday.

What Wasn’t Perfect

The seagulls.
So. Many. Seagulls.
They stare at your food like it’s legally theirs.
One even hit the back of my head… 😭

Thankfully, the staff gave us food covers to help keep them away, which was really kind. Still, it’s definitely something to be aware of — you can’t fully relax unless you’re prepared to guard your fries like treasure.

One-line impression

An unforgettable Sydney evening — enjoying cold drinks and warm fried snacks with the Opera House in front of you and the harbour breeze on your skin.
It’s a place I would absolutely bring family or friends when they visit Sydney.
And please, order the sweet potato fries — they’re genuinely so, so good.
Interestingly, when I visited in August they had a chipotle-style mayo that made them even better, but in October the sauce had changed. Next time, I’m definitely asking if the old sauce is still available!
