Staying at Sydney Central YHA — My Honest Backpacker Experience

“Clean, comfortable, and surprisingly easy to settle into.”

I stayed at Sydney Central YHA, located right in front of Central Station, in a 4-bed dorm room.

From the beginning, the experience felt smooth and comfortable.
I was lucky enough to be assigned a room close to the bathrooms, which made a huge difference — everything felt easy and stress-free.

Room & Facilities

The bathroom and shower facilities were well maintained and never felt uncomfortable to use.
I heard the hostel had been renovated, and it definitely showed — everything felt clean, modern, and well-organized.

The beds were surprisingly private for a dorm room.
Each bed had its own curtain, and the bathroom required a room key to enter, which made the space feel safe and secure.

The common area on the first floor was spacious and easy to use.
There were also weekly programs running, which seemed like a great way to meet people and make friends — especially if you’re traveling solo.

What Could Be Better

I arrived early on my first day and needed to store my luggage before check-in.
The luggage storage was paid, which I didn’t mind, but carrying a large suitcase up the stairs was exhausting.
That part was a bit tough, especially after a long journey.

One-line impression

I haven’t stayed at many backpackers yet, but my experience at Sydney Central YHA was so good that if a friend asked me for a recommendation, this would be the first place I’d suggest.
